Steam Applications

Steam is 100% water. Let Pentair Everpure® help you protect your equipment investment by reducing damaging scale buildup and corrosion.

Steam cooking is an important means for foodservice operators to meet the needs of today’s health-conscious consumers. Also, steam equipment is viewed by staff as easy to use, and chefs appreciate the cooking flexibility and productivity benefits these units afford.

Continuous availability of high quality water is critical to optimal steam equipment operation. If your area’s water is hard, contains chemicals or other contaminants of any significant level, they can coat and corrode the steaming components. Scale buildup and possible chemical carryover can deteriorate steamer performance, negatively impact food quality, and result in premature steamer component failures.

Regardless of whether you use boilerless or boiler-based steam equipment, when water is converted to steam, contaminants are left behind that can cause scale and corrosion. Chorine and chlorides can destroy stainless steel probes and prematurely corrode cabinet racks and surfaces.

In addition, for boilerless applications:

  • Scale on spritzer tubes can reduce performance: lowers steam production, increases risk of overheating water injection solenoid and excessive browning of food.
  • Scale buildup makes equipment take longer to heat up: wastes energy, results in longer cooking cycles, and increases risk of failure due to over-firing of heat exchangers.
  • Stuck floats and valves lead to under-filling which could unexpectedly trip the safety and shutdown the unit altogether.

In boiler applications:

  • Scale in the boiler can cause stress fractures and leaks. Boilers are expensive to replace and, in most cases, are not carried “standard” in servicing dealer inventory. Also, equipment must be moved to replace the boiler which can dislodge flakes of scale into components, potentially causing entirely new problems.
  • Scale causes probes to have false readings which, when low, will keep the unit from heating and, if high, could detect a false overheated condition, unnecessarily shutting down the unit.
  • Equipment delimings are expensive and labor-intensive.

The bottom line is that it’s crucial for steam equipment to have clean water, and that’s where Pentair Everpure filtration solutions come in. We offer a range of system options to help:

  • Remove chlorine and minerals that cause serious problems such as abrasion, clogging and corrosion.
  • Improve operational efficiency and reduce the risk of equipment breakdown.
  • Allow for fewer delimings.
  • Lower energy and maintenance costs.
  • Extend the life of your equipment investment.
